Adult Psychiatric Evaluation:

The Brichel Center offers comprehensive psychiatric evaluation for adults. A psychiatric evaluation gives careful consideration to numerous factors that influence an individual's mental health, including mood, behavior, current and past medical history, as well as personal, social and family history. A psychiatric evaluation may result in a biologically-based diagnosis or it may identify and clarify other causes for troubling symptoms.

A psychiatric evaluation is appropriate for individuals who are struggling with negative mood, such as sadness, excessive worrying, anger or irritability, or for those who have difficulty controlling their behavior, for example poor impulse control, sleep disruption, or excessive substance use. Adults who experience difficulty in social or employment settings might also benefit from psychiatric evaluation.

A psychiatric evaluation at the Brichel Center is typically 45 to 60 minutes in length and consists of a face-to-face interview allowing for a thorough discussion of present concerns and recent functioning as well as a review of past history, medical status, developmental, social, and family history.

At the end of the evaluation, the psychiatrist or nurse practitioner's diagnostic impressions and treatment recommendations are discussed with the client. Recommendations may include no need for psychiatric intervention or follow-up, treatment with medication, treatment with therapy, referral to appropriate resources, or a combination of those approaches.
