Child and Adolescent Medication Management:
Following an initial psychiatric evaluation at the Brichel Center, children or adolescents who are placed on medication will return to our offices on a regular basis for ongoing assessment and medication management. Psychotropic medications are designed to correct the chemical deficits and imbalances in an individual's brain that may be contributing to mood or behavioral disorders or developmental difficulties. At the Brichel Center, children or adolescents who are taking one or more of these medications are monitored very carefully.
Follow-up appointments for medication management are generally brief and focus on symptom response and side effect assessment and control. Children or adolescents on a newly prescribed, or recently changed, medication will be seen more frequently. Those who are stable on a helpful medication may be seen every few months.
Medications used at Brichel include the psychostimulants (Adderall, Concerta, Metadate, Ritalin, etc.), SSRIs (Zoloft, Lexapro, Prozac, Paxil, etc) other antidepressants (Wellbutrin, Trazodone, Effexor, Cymbalta, etc), mood stabilizers (Lamictal, Depakote, Lithium, Risperdal, Geodon, Seroquel etc), sleep agents, anxiolytics, and many others
