Child and Adolescent Neuropsychological Evaluation:
The Brichel Center offers neuropsychological evaluation for children and adolescents whose development, academic progress, or mental health might benefit from this specialized assessment of brain-based functions. A neuropsychological evaluation contributes to a thorough understanding of the unique strengths and weaknesses in a child's learning profile, clarifies a complicated learning, emotional, or behavioral diagnosis, and results, most importantly, in recommendations of specific interventions that will facilitate the child or adolescent's success and overall development.
A neuropsychological evaluation is appropriate for children or adolescents who struggle with academic performance or find little enjoyment in the learning process, as well as those who have difficulty paying attention, behaving appropriately, or interacting socially. Neuropsychological evaluation can be used to inform treatment and educational programming decisions, establish a cognitive baseline, monitor skill development, or identify specialized interventions for children with complex congenital and/or medical histories. Children and adolescents come to the Brichel Center for an initial evaluation, or for the additional insight a second opinion can provide.
Prior to a child's neuropsychological evaluation, parents are sent a number of questionnaires designed to gather important information about a child's history and to identify particular areas of concern. A subsequent interview with the parents provides an opportunity to discuss that information in detail.
The testing session begins in the mid-morning, provides for a lunch-break, and concludes in the mid-afternoon. In most cases, our comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation includes an assessment of:

Executive Control Functions

Attention

Language

Learning and Memory

Visual Spatial skills

Motor Functions

Emotional and Behavioral Functioning

Social Communication Skills

Intelligence

Academic Achievement
After a child's tests have been carefully scored and interpreted, parents are invited for a follow-up meeting to discuss testing results and recommended interventions. Parents will receive a written report of their child's evaluation, testing results and recommendations.
